There are many good art galleries awaiting visitors to Tampere, a large proportion of which are to be found in central Tampere and also on the western side of the city. The modestly sized Galleria Rajatila features regular exhibitions by local Finnish artists and is known for its graphic arts, while the ever-popular Galleria Saskia is a great place to view quality paintings and pick up some nice postcard souvenirs of your visit.

For lovers of contemporary art, Tampere has a number of art galleries, which will appeal, such as the Galleria Vitriini, and the acclaimed Museum of Contemporary Art (Tampereen Nykytaiteen Museo) on Veturiaukio. Established in 1966, this notable institution is responsible for organising many of the art-related events in Tampere and has acquired many important pieces over the years thanks largely to public donations.




No trip to Tampere's art galleries is really complete without visiting the city's Art Museum (Tampereen Taidemuseo), on Puutarhakatu. With a collection exceeding some 6,000 paintings and sculptures, the museum is rather surprisingly best known for its visiting exhibitions, where works by local Finnish artists are often displayed.
